Chicago Restaurant Association

One from the vault. In 1986, while I was still in school and working as an apprentice at Chicago graphic design firm Slavin Associates, the Chicago Restaurant Association selected Slavin to create that year's Taste of Chicago poster. Much to the surprise (and chagrin) of Slavin’s senior staff, the client chose the skyline-reflected-in-a-plate concept that I’d hastily sketched moments before the meeting. At the time, Taste of Chicago was one of the city’s largest and most popular events and their promotional materials could be seen throughout the city. The poster was brought to life by Chicago illustrator Ken Goldammer, and won awards from the Art Directors Club and Communication Arts magazine.
